In 1951, a group of seven Goodyear Tire and Rubber employees pulled $5.25 each from their pockets to charter Family Savings Federal Credit Union. Today one thing hasn't changed: Family Savings Federal Credit Union is still dedicated to giving members a lower cost alternative to the traditional banking system. Today, just as it was 57 years ago, Family Savings abides by the motto ‘Members, not profits, are our first priority.’

At Family Savings Federal Credit Union, membership means great savings on share draft accounts, lower interest rates on loans and higher return on investments.  Members also enjoy extended hours and convenient locations in Etowah County, AL as well as Scottsboro, AL, Cartersville, GA, Rockmart, GA, Calhoun, GA and Hiram, GA. 

Family Savings FCU is unique in many ways. The most exciting is the Goodyear Elementary School student branch. In August 2006, Family Savings opened a student run branch at Goodyear Elementary School in Rockmart, Georgia. The credit union school branch is the only student credit union branch in Polk County Georgia.  It is run by fifth grade students that were elected to serve as board members, supervisory committee members and tellers, all with the help of three Family Savings employees. After two successful years and with a lot of support from the principal and assistant principal, Goodyear Elementary has dedicated a page to Family Savings in their yearbook. The school has also set aside a credit union room in their new elementary school scheduled to open in 2009.  Teachers are allowed to dress casually once a week, but only if they wear a Family Savings FCU t-shirt. Family Savings always gets requests to participate in all of their school events. The principal, Mrs. Cox has even denoted Family Savings as a “True Partner with Goodyear Elementary because they not only donated money to our school but donated their time”. As of July 2007, there are 189 students with active credit union accounts with total deposits of over $14,000.        

President/CEO, Monte J. Hill, has been with Family Savings for 17 years. During his time with FSFCU, Mr. Hill has seen many changes, most of which have been the increasing use of technology in the credit union financial environment. The improvements that have taken place, such as Internet Banking, Telephone Banking, ACH Processing, Indirect Lending, Imaging, Software Upgrades, an MCIF System and many others have improved the service that Family Savings employees have been able to offer their members. Mr. Hill and his management team continue to keep Family Savings in a very competitive position within each community they serve.
